Short answer: Angler installs typically run $25 to $40 per foot of roofline, installed. For most homes that’s a few thousand dollars, one time.
Compare that with hiring someone to hang Christmas lights. Atlanta homeowners spend about $539 every season on that, according to Angi, and it never stops.
What drives the price
Every house is different, and the price reflects a few things you can see from the street.
1. Length of your roofline. This is the biggest factor. Pricing is per linear foot, so a ranch with a simple front roofline costs less than a large two-story with lights on every side.
2. How complex the roofline is. Peaks, gables, dormers and breaks mean more cuts, more corners and more time fitting the track. A straight run is faster than a roofline with six peaks.
3. Height and pitch. Two- and three-story homes and steep roofs take more equipment and care to install safely.
4. How many sides you light. Front only is the most common. Wrapping the sides or the whole house adds footage.
5. Power and controller placement. We plan where the controller and power go so no cords hang down. Homes without an outlet in a good spot may need a little more work.
6. The system itself. Track-mounted systems with sealed, weatherproof pixels and long warranties cost more than stick-on DIY kits. That difference shows up in how the lights look during the day and how long they last.
Example costs
At Angler’s typical $25 to $40 per foot:
| Home | Roofline lit | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Single-story ranch, front only | About 100 ft | $2,500 – $4,000 |
| Two-story, front only | About 150 ft | $3,750 – $6,000 |
| Two-story with gables, front and sides | About 220 ft | $5,500 – $8,800 |
Your actual price comes from measuring your roofline. The estimate is free, and you get one exact number before anything is installed.

How fast permanent lights pay for themselves
If you pay someone to hang lights every year, permanent lights replace that bill. At the Angi Atlanta average of $539 a season:
| Install cost | Seasons to break even |
|---|---|
| $2,500 | About 4½ |
| $3,750 | About 7 |
| $6,000 | About 11 |
And that’s only counting Christmas. Permanent lights also cover Halloween, July 4th, game days and everyday warm-white accent lighting, which a hired holiday install doesn’t. Prairie backs its pixels for 25 years, so the lights keep going long after they’ve paid for themselves.
If you hang lights yourself, the math is about time and safety instead of money. The Consumer Product Safety Commission counts about 160 holiday decorating injuries a day during the season, and nearly half are falls.
Permanent lights vs. a DIY kit: what you’re paying for
DIY kits like Govee cost much less up front. Govee’s entry kit lists for about $280 to $300 for 100 feet, and its newer kits run roughly $3.20 to $3.45 a foot. The low price comes from one thing: you’re the installer.
| DIY kit (like Govee) | Angler + Prairie | |
|---|---|---|
| Up-front cost | Lowest | Higher, one time |
| Who climbs the ladder | You | Our crew |
| Mounting | Adhesive and clips on your trim | Aluminum track matched to your trim |
| During the day | Lights visible | Hidden in the track |
| Fit | Set kit lengths | Cut to your roofline |
| Warranty | 3 years | 25-year pixels from Prairie + 5-year Angler install |

Questions about cost
How much do permanent lights cost per foot?
Angler installs typically run $25 to $40 per foot, installed. Where your house lands in that range depends on roofline complexity, height and how many sides you light.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. We measure your roofline and give you one clear price. No pressure, no obligation.
Do you charge more for two-story homes?
Height and pitch can add to the price because they take more equipment and time to install safely. The main factor is still the length of your roofline.
How long does the install take?
Most installs take 1 to 3 days, depending on the size and shape of the house.
Why not just buy a cheaper kit?
For a simple single-story roofline and someone comfortable on a ladder, a DIY kit can be fine. For two-story homes, rooflines with peaks and gables, or anyone who wants the lights hidden during the day and never wants to climb again, a professional install is worth it.
